Literary Activity

—  David's work has been selected by the editorial board of the online Journal of the American Revolution to be republished in the annual hardcover books produced by JAR, including his articles on: Eutaw Springs and the Ambiguity of Victory in the 2024 Annual Volume; Edward Hand's American Journey in the 2023 Annual Volume; and Thomas Knowlton's Revolution in the 2022 volume. These hardcover books feature the best historical research and writing published by the journal during the prior calendar year as determined by the editors. They are available from Westholme Publishing, Amazon, or wherever books are sold.

—  David's most recent book, The Battle of Harlem Heights, 1776, was published by Westholme Publishing as part of its Small Battles Series. Westholme is collaborating with a pair of distinguished scholars—Mark Edward Lender (author of Cabal!: The Plot Against General Washington) and James Kirby Martin (author of Benedict Arnold, Revolutionary Hero: An American Warrior Reconsidered), series editors—to offer a fresh and important new perspective on the story of America’s early military conflicts that focuses on these engagements at their most intimate and revealing level. —  The recording of David's interview by historian Brady Crytzer, host of the Journal of the American Revolution podcast Dispatches, about David's article for the journal, Albigence Waldo: Surgeon, Soldier, Diarist, Poet, is available on the JAR Dispatches website (episode 259). This is David's fourth such interview.

—  David's article, Defining Victory in the Revolution, appeared in the Summer 2024 issue of the Swan Historical Foundation Newsletter. 

— David has written two articles for the Journal of the American Revolution on the Southern campaign of 1781-82—Eutaw Springs and the Ambiguity of Victory (May 30, 2023) and Hobkirk Hill: A Major Minor Battle (June 27, 2023).

— David's article on Who Said What About the "Ten Crucial Days" appeared in the Winter 2023 Lawrence Historical Society Newsletter, Places in Time.

— David's most recent article for the Journal of the American Revolution— Albigence Waldo: Surgeon, Soldier, Diarist, Poet (May 7, 2024) — focuses on the life and achievements of a man of various talents who, in a Revolutionary context, is best known for the diary he kept before and during the Valley Forge encampment in the winter of 1777-1778. He also became an accomplished surgeon whose entire medical practice was devoted to that specialty, which included a remarkable range of surgical interventions for a medical practitioner of the late 1700s.

Speaker Events

David has spoken at book lecture and signing events hosted by a variety of organizations and institutions, as well as participating in interviews and discussion forums. He welcomes inquiries about his availability at [email protected].

Upcoming Events

Guided Tours - Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) - December 21 and 28. David is employed part-time as a historical interpreter at the WCHP Visitor Center (215-493-4076)—open 10 am to 5 pm—where he is available to autograph books and joins other interpreters in giving guided tours. Information about tours and the option to purchase tickets are provided here. Please note: The identity of the person giving a tour at any particular time cannot be determined in advance of that date. David will not be working at the park in January and February.

Guided Tours - Princeton Battlefield State Park - David is one of several volunteer historical interpreters for the Princeton Battlefield Society (PBS) tour program. Guided tours of the battlefield are conducted on alternate Sundays from early May to mid-October (from 1 - 2 pm). David's last PBS tour was on September 8, but he plans to participate in the 2025 tour program. More information and registration are available on the PBS website here.

BOOK SIGNING - Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) - December 25 (12 - 3 pm). David will be signing copies of his books in the Visitor Center during the 72nd annual reenactment of the Continental Army's Delaware River crossing on December 25-26, 1776.

Speaking Engagement - Cascade Centennial Chapter, Washington State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution - March 1. David will be speaking via Zoom about his forthcoming book, Winning the Ten Crucial Days.

>  A recording of David's first public remarks about his upcoming book, Winning the Ten Crucial Days, is available here, from a talk he gave at the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville, NJ, as part of Hopewell Valley Heritage Week, in an event sponsored by the Washington Crossing Park Association of New Jersey and the D & R Greenway Land Trust. The other speaker (following David), Dr. Richard Veit, is a registered professional archeologist as well as Associate Dean of the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of anthropology at Monmouth University.
